The Oodtacular

Dragoncon has come and gone and I've had a brilliant thought.  A lot of my friends are Doctor Who fans and I've seen some affordable Ood masks online.  I'm orchestrating a group Ood cosplay for next year's Dcon!

I hope to have the prototype costume prepared by Halloween.  Currently I have a mask on the way and am researching outfits from various online vendors.

I wont be matching the Ood suits from the show.  That's just difficult, expensive, and tedious.  However, since the Ood were servants to a variety of people, I'm sure there were Ood out there in different uniforms.  So I'll be looking at inexpensive serving jackets, pants, gloves, and shoes.  The cheaper I can make the uniform, the easier it will be for my friends to put it together.  I'm going to try to keep the cost down under $100 for the full setup.  If I can achieve half of that, I'll be ecstatic.

The mask I ordered is located here.

The mask will require some work.  Possible alterations include:

Gluing in a piece of flesh toned fabric along the back seam and also a couple of magnetic strips so that things like the back of our necks and hair aren't visible.  The strip magnets will keep it all in place.

Cutting out the eyes, sealing the existing eye slits, and dropping in some LED lit carbonate lenses for EVIL OOD mode.

Adding a little structural reinforcement to make the mask less floppy.

Gloss coating the face tentacles.

I'll be posting updates periodically.  Hopefully I can get somewhere around 10 of my friends to do this with me and make a real presence at Dcon.

Tardis Headband

Crunch time.  Tonight I sprint home from work, swing by the store to get some last minute supplies, and depart for Dragoncon.

After I finish up this piece for my girlfriend's tardis dress.

Headband with flathead machine screw

Side Bars
These are vinyl tubing with a bit of coat hanger inside to give it shape.  plugged the ends with hotglue.

Cracked open a fake tealight for the light inside.

The housing is a parmesan cheese container.  Taped and striped it accordingly.

Craft foam cap.  needs more work when I get home.  This is the most rushed piece as I'm vastly out of time and dont have better materials.

The majority of it assembled.  The side bars attach at the top and float around the screwcap on the bottom.  The candle is held in with some velcro inside the cap (so we can change batteries should we need to).

I'll post up some finished pictures when I get it done and have a chance!

Avengers Ball

My other half has made a dress for the Avengers Ball at Dragoncon using a Captain America fabric print.  So I picked up a cheap vest from a thrift store and she's modifying the front panels to match.

Death Eater!

Working on some cards for a Death Eater variant of Are You a Werewolf.  Should arrive just in time for Dragoncon.  Fun times!

Update:

Cards are ordered.  Have 8 decks of these coming in for the Are You A Death Eater panel at Dragoncon.  Some more samples below.
